Barely Running After Rebuild
22 Jul 2008 12:41
Alright, so I took the engine apart and installed brand new gaskets. I put everything back together, torqued everything, made sure timing was at TDC. Now
It runs sorta...
I get a backfire in the exhaust and a little in the carbs.
I made sure the coils and are in right, and the wiring is in right.
Now I'm confused...
I can get it to run but it dies almost instantly after I let off the gas.
Is my timing out again or what?
please help!

If it ran OK before the rebuild I think Id double check the cam timing. Did you static test the timing hitting the marks on both pairs of cyls ? Got the valves set right ?

when you refer to having the valves set right, are you referring to setting height with shims?

Geesh... where to begin:
1. check cam chain timing AGAIN
2. check valve clearances
3. check ignition timing
4. put your darn bike year/model in your signature by editing your profile -
5. almost all Kaws have the GREEEEEEEEEN ignition lead going to the 2&3 coil and the black wire going to the 1&4 coil and make sure the wires coming off the coils are going to the right plugs.
6. make sure you are getting gas
7. check compression to make sure you have compression
8. check spark on all four plugs to make sure you have spark
9. If you have a Dyna S, make sure you have the rotor on the right way
....errrrrrrrrrrrrr time to go eat, there are lots more things but I would start with these...
