Hi all

Well here's the story. I decided to tear into the spare parts engine I got a while ago just to see what I had. I found that # 2 piston was rusted into the cylinder. Not a big surprise I knew the engine wouldn't turn over when I got it. Piston doesn't look too bad but cylinder is pitted. Oh well maybe there's a 700 kit in my future :woohoo:

Anyway on to the good stuff. When I took the head fff I measured the cams and found that the lobes measure out to be 1.428' where stock for a kz650 is supposed to be 1.406'-1.412'. When I measured the cams from my 78 sr I got 1.409'.(round part of the lobe measures 1.110 vs 1.106 for the SR) Judging by the spare engine's sn KZ650BE017886 it was once part of a 1977 c1. Kawi parts lists reference the same cam part number for both the 78sr and the 77 D1. Other than the lobe height the cams look and measure the same. The exhaust cam even has the tack gear. The marking on the cam are E J R2 my SR cam is marked F W R1 does any one know what those marking mean

Measuring them with the dial indicator I get a lift of .325 where the SR cams give me a lift of .307. Are these 750 cams?

Thanks Guys

Could be 750 cams,
Here are some #'s I got by searching the site

Stock Kz650 cams had .304" of lift
kz750 cams measured out to .320".
GPZ750 cams have .354" lift

1977 KZ650C1
and the KZ650/KZ750 Conversion ;)
