checking (and setting) timing on 83 750 twin

I've been having troubles with this bike for months now. I've done the wired George spark boster had the rebuilt, synched'em etc. While trying to start it while ago I heard the cam/timing chain slip some teeth. Sooooo I'm guessing it has slightly jumped time.
How do I go about finding out and if it is bad how do I reset it?
Thanks in advance (haha timing joke,, advance.. get it??? ahhh never mind)

Did you loosen or remove the tensioner on the front of the motor before attempting to turn it over? As far as I know, that's the only way the chain would be loose enough to jump teeth.

I look in the manual every time I time one, so I can't recall the specifics, there's a downloadable 750 twin manual available in the forums somewhere, do a search for it and it will show you how to do it.

On the '79 twin, the cams time as follows: set crank to TDC, the intake and exhaust cam wheel arrows are parallel to the top of the head and pointing exactly away from each other. There is also a 32 link count on the cam chain that has to align with the marked tooth on the exhaust wheel. The FSM shows how to do this clearly.
