Has anyone used this service or had any bad dealings with these guys? Seems to good to be true... No port & polish but damn this is cheap, labor only but guides, sleeves & shims (new Camshaft) aren't that much more (~$100)...

HW-4-8 Performance (std size) valve job - 8 valve head 189.00

At APE, and APE uses a Serdi machine to do it, and a Serdi is pretty much as good as it gets when it comes to precision.

OMR, nice find. First the tip on Overstockpartsgalore.com and now this. Thanks a ton for sharing on both. I'm in the market for both block and head work needed for my project.

They've got some excellent deals on block/piston sets too.

That price does seem alarmingly low. I paid $200 for a carry in head with valves where they did all the work up to (not including) reinstalling cams and shims. They did a great job and I thought that was a very reasonable price.

That guy is on my favorite sellers list on ebay. When my brother comes up here from Orlando this winter I'm sending my extra head back with him to get done. Free shipping to his shop anyways.

Always check your valve clearances with the head torqued on the motor it will be run on. Bench shimming is a ballpark setup. Things can change when the head is torqued. Think about it....you're talking 3 decimal measurements.

148$ is a very reasonable price.

Serdi equipment is not required to do a good valve job. Good stuff but the end result is still at the hands of the operator.....

There are automotive machine shops that will do a valve job on an 8 valve head for less... problem is, these guys are hamfisted and used to working on Fords and Chevys. I think if I were getting a valve job done on a bike, I would want to go with someone I KNOW repeat KNOW is a bike guy (machinist). A bike only guy with experience is a bit harder to find but is worth the extra IMHO.

I agree WG. My local machine shop wanted 50 bucks to a valve job on my 1100. They do good work...on chevy's and ford's.

BTW all, I'm not promoting this concept versus going to the experienced & professional resources we have on board, examples (WiredGeorge for Carbs & Larry C for Heads).

Some of our community members are just looking for a basic valve job where no porting/polishing required, no racing of the bike etc.. and came across a cheap & reasonable price and was just wondering if anyone had heard of them or used their services.

On a different note:
Larry C, ordered the .365 CAM's, they're being cut and heated treated soon, should have in a couple of weeks at which point I'll be calling you...

I could be wrong but I thought I recalled reading years back that KZ900/1000 & Z1 valves had a special hardcoating on them and were not supposed to be ground. Any truth to this or just an old wives tale ?
