Hello, I recently converted my old dodge pickup to LPG (dual Fuel). Its running well and I am saving around 30% on fuel cost.Toying in the possibility of converting a KZ1000 to propane,LPG, or other alternative fuels. I have seen single cylinders bike that have been converted, but not 4 carb setup and 1000cc like the KZ.Would appreciate your view and comments.:)

jeffreygp, I thought about this a while ago, specifically wrt hydrogen, problem is I don't know enough about injecters yet:) There are some carb experts on here and some aircraft engineers,it remains to be seen whether anybody else has seriously considered it. Ride Safe.

All you need is 4 propane carbs and a trailer to haul the tank around with a regulator on it. Thats my opinion. Are you serious? Put a little diesel in it if you want to screw it up. A buddy built one out of a Honda 250 single street bike and a Maserati diesel single that they used to power hiway work lights. Yes, I am serious, Ill go over & take pictures if there are any non believers. It runs & moves but I wouldnt want it

It's your bike and all but why ruin a perfectly good KZ?

Damn, screw up a honda or better yet a Harley, any other bike than a KZ...

Just my humble two cents worth...

What he said. I'll worry about converting when we run out of fuel.

This side of the pond its getting desperate, so this may well be something that has to be investigated soon. It now costs over £20 to fill up ($40!!)

The US military has some KLR650s that have been fitted with a diesel engine and get 90-100mpg in Iraq. Cycle World did a story about them a few months ago. Supposedly the company that builds them is eventually going to offer them for sale to the public for the low low price of about $20,000.

Alas, it doesn't appear that CW makes it archived articles available online...

The single cylinders I have seen were on lpg the only external difference you could see is the Cylindrical tank hooked up at the rear like an extra muffler. I had a chance to ride a Yamaha SRX600 on lpg, and it runs well, the owner says that it lost a little power but it still is a great thumper. I am planning to fabricate the tank for lpg that would look like the original, my problem is the 4 carb setup, and heating the vaporiser (planning to heat it with engine oil). I tried methanol on my car but it was disappointing, fuel economy was bad, and methanol is hard to source and store. Hope to get more inputs. Thanks guys. :)

Is there any way that you could add an intake manifold and just use one carb?? or maybe two?? I like the idea of it all and I'd really like to see it happen but i know next to nothing about LPG or propane. Good luck.

I hope you have less trouble with the regulators then we did with our work trucks running on CNG. Either the pumps or the regualtor were broke at least 50% of the time. A cubic foot of CNG goes about as far as a gallon of gas as a reference. Theres still the problem of the tank on a bike. The diesel bike makes more sense to me. Get a Honda Rukus, they advertise 107 mpg
