kz650 Shifting Issues/Question was created by KawiConvert
I am trying to shift my bike while it is not running and I have found that I can shift into first and back to neutral, but I cannot shift to second. I have tried kicking the engine over or rolling the bike but nothing seems to work. Is this common or is there something that I should look at in the transmission? Again, this is without the bike running.
Thanks,
KC

There is a system on these bikes which prevent you from shifting into 2nd gear or higher when the bike is stationary.:woohoo:

Thanks, that is good to know. I was starting to worry that I may have messed something up or worse, bought a bike with a bad transmission. I'll have to get it all back together.

It's called Kawasaki's exclusive neutral finder (or something close to that) when wheel (gears) are not turning it will not go past neutral. Works great, downshifting as you come to a light or stop sign, down to first and come to a stop. One click up and your in neutral, no more hunting for it.... works great! I see my friends looking for neutral while I'm idling waiting for the green light. :)

Thanks for the info behind it. I am glad that it was intentional rather than some design flaw that they found afterwards. I was also worried that my rearsets just didn't have enough travel or leverage to properly shift it.

Last bike I rode I found neutral fairly easily...

but it was generally while trying to shift into second. :)

"Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week!"

There is something nice about a well designed mechanical system.
