clutch cable was created by djcamp10
so my clutch cable snapped while in 5th gear last night need less to say long ride home and no stopped lights were utilized. I put a new one on this morning and it seemes to be working except for i noticed i didn't have to engage the hand lever to shift gears. any suggestions? i like the theory of a hand clutch free transmission but i'm sure it cant be good for the bike

Your old cable probably stretched before it snapped so a re-adjustment is required to regain the smooth shifting.

Also get one of the cable lubing kits (comes with special lubing fitting and spray lube) to lubricate the new clutch cable.

Open your manual ( hopefully you have at least a owners manual );)
OR on your clutch lever there will be a small adjustment wheel, and depending on your bike.. on the cable it's self about half way down there should be another adjuster.
On my old Z1 and my others that's how it's done. Now on yours..I'm only guessing:dry:
Someone should chime in here.
Good luck! Pat

Screw the little adjuster, the thingie that screws into the clutch lever bracket, all the way in. Then use the adjustment that is in the middle of the cable, down by the exhaust pipe, and adjust the cable until you can feel resistance with the lever. Continue to adjust until there is about 1/2 inch free play in the clutch lever. Tighten the lock nut then use the adjuster on the handlebar to fine tune the adjustment to your liking, then lock down the little wheel to secure the adjuster. If you messed with the adjustment down on the engine case, get a manual to make that adjustment......chris3
