GPz750 Cylinder Head & Cams etc - how can I identify?
10 Jul 2008 09:28
I've just bought a cylinder head complete with cam shafts, and cam cover, I want to be sure it is a GPz750 one.
The head I have on my engine at the moment is from a GT750 ( a soft tune shaft drive engine we get here, that I don't think you get in the US, its very similar in most ways, but doesn't put out the same power, the valves I believe are smaller and the cam profile and timing different).
Is there a way of identifying what I've just bought?
One feature I did notice is that it has no rev counter drive. (any way of getting an electronic rev counter to fit in the housing of Z650 clocks - because that is where the engine is destined for?)

Well, I know the GPz750 didn't have the rev counter drive machined into the camshaft.
I know the head shape was a little different, I'll have to see if I can find a pic...

My 82 has a black coating on the motor & head and the intake ports are hand done, not as cast

No tach drive and the fins are squared off instead of being rounded.
Of course the same things apply to the GPz750 Turbo, except the cams in it have the same lift and duration as KZ650 cams.

Are all the GPz750 (non turbo) heads the same - and cams, for the different years?

Are there any numbers to identify what cams I have? Or is it a case of measuring the lobe height with a micrometer?
