There is also a camchain guide block in the camcover. When you put it on the camchain will be tightened. So it has to be installed prior to setting up the manual CCT. Otherwise your chain will be too tight.Yes I did turn the motor over as I screwed it in. Cam cover as in valve cover up top? No it was in place.
Why?
Did you synchronise your carbs? When the carbs are out of sync the camchain will rattle.
The best way to sync the carbs is to adjust the valveclearances, then adjust the airscrews on the carbs, then synchronise them.
This is a lot of work, but synchronising alone will also work well enough...(and save you a lot of time)

WTF?...Maybe I can't read through your puncuation. I know there is a guide block up top but what the heck about putting it on? I think your a little off. I do know if I go too tight on the CCT that guide will turn to mush. Thats what I fear. ha.
The carbs are synced and set perfectly...The bike could use some shimming in the valves but not extraneously.

The early 650's use a chain guide block that is attached to the head, not to the cover like the later Hy-Vo chain 650's use. In this case it wouldn't matter if the cam cover was off, it still works.

Oops sorry for the confusion!!!
I thought the 650's were the same as the 700's and 750's.
But what I was trying to say is that you should bolt on the camconver before installing and adjusting the manual CCT.
But apparently you can forget what I said because your bike is different from what I thought...
