brakes dragging?! was created by jdreadrocker
well i my gpz has been really really hard to roll so i checked the brakes adn took them completely apart. The brake fluid was dark brown and there was a ton of sludge under the pistons. Well the bike is definately easier to roll without the brakes on but as you would guess significantly harder to stop! (lol) Well now how do i adjust the brakes? I have a shop manual but it is pretty useless on the subject. I know if it is not adjusted right it could drag or not work at all. I am quite frustrated with this manual and i really don't want to screw this up. I have nightmares about brakes because that is what caused me to lay my last bike down. I feel like im about to go insane trying to get this just right. Please help me save my sanity!:woohoo:

Don't know of any adjustment the brakes will need.If everything is in spec, just put it back together. The pistons will do the adjusting.

I'm assuming that you haven't swapped in any thing more than pads. Have you?

the only brakes that need adjusting are the drum brakes with adjusting rods on the rear brakes. Someone on here mentioned a return port on the master cylinder or reservoior that is supposed to return the fluid to the reservior. If the port is blocked the fluid will remain in the piston and not return the pressure. Also flush your brake system!

this bike does not have drum brakes but i guess the real question is will the brakes adjust theirselves if the fluid has been drained and refilled? and i have not clue whether everything is in spec or what the specs are even.

Disc brakes are self adjusting. If you cleaned out the calipers and drained the lines and filled/bled the system, you will be fine. Just make sure your pads don't wear too thin. Also, when you remove the caliper/pads, mark the pad's position, inner/outer, so the wear points will be the same. I just write an I or O on the back of the pad with a sharpie so I install them in their original position....chris3
