Glad to hear everything went well for you. It sounds like I'm going through the same thing as you right now. I'm just waiting on some cam chain tensioner parts, a new set of 1075 pistons and block and some black gunkote to finish it with. I haven't had a chance to get back to those cylinder studs yet. They must be locktited in. I have a new set of ape studs to replace them with.

When I remove engine studs, I use stud puller and when I intall them, I use a stud install tool. I think APE actually sells both tools. There are different types of pullers and some work better than others... some will damage thread easily. I wouldn't loctite them... I also use NAPA brand gasket sealer. When it dries it makes the gasket hold oil a whole lot better... I don't use it on the head gasket but all the cover gaskets and the base gasket.
