good question.
i don't see why not. the only problum i would worry about would being able to draw them up tight enough to prevent any leaks.
anyone here ever do this ?

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

If the bolt in question is an M8x 1.25 size then a company called ARP has your answer. try them at www.arp-bolts.com/catalog/catalog The studs come in four lengths and are stainless steel with a tensile strength of 170,000PSI and are available in 4,8,10 and 16 packs.

The specs are:
M8x1.25x32MM (1.250") #400-8011
M8x1.25x38MM (1.500") #400-8012
M8x1.25x45MM (1.750") #400-8013
M8x1.25x51MM (2.000") #400-8014
M8x1.25x57MM (2.250") #400-8015

The studs come with easy start 12 point SS nuts

Also studs will last far longer than installing and removing bolts that will deform/destroy the threaded holes in the aluminum head.

The studs on a Z1 engine are M6... I think an M6 1.0 pitch about 45mm long would be right... the length is from memory and I wouldn't use one that is shorter than the OEM. I also suspect that I would prefer using studs as there won't be much mechanical holding power if using bolts; only lockwashers to my way of thinking and they will not hold well. The stainless will also tend to gall to the aluminum head and I can see thread issues.

I'd think installation of the exhaust is easier with the studs as you can slip the exhaust collers over the studs, helping to line everything up and support the exhaust.
If you used bolts, you have to find each hole, be careful of cross-threading, and be in and out of the threaded holes many times over the years where as the studs have been in my head since day one, giving less chance for wear compared to using bolts.
Just an opinion.
