321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I'd say you have it correct. It's been a long time since I removed my cams. As I've said in other posts, there's no reason in the world to ever have to fool with the cam timing if you only do one cam at a time and place it in the center of the engine keeping the chain tight running down into the engine.

IT RUNS!!!!!
The friggin starter seems to have crapped out on me. The solenoid is clicking and popping and vibrating but the starter itself won’t turn. That’s upsetting because it worked about a month ago when I last had the battery in.
But that doesn’t matter, cause right now it is a smoky popping sparking rough but RUNNING motor!!
I am going to have a drink; or 12 to commemorate this occasion!

I need to look at the book, but I seem to remember something about both lines being flush with the gasket surface and a tooth count, I will pull the book out and verify it
