82 KZ750 with two into one exhaust, so I assume we are talking about a KZ750M1 750 twin? There are also 82 750 fours.

It's got electronic ignition, so no points to bother with. Backfire when? Cruising? Accelerating? De-accelerating?

I've got stock 80 750 twin pipes on my 79 with an 82 motor, and I get an occasional pop out the exhaust that I have not been able to cure. And I guarantee my motor is tuned to perfection, has no vacuum leaks, and no exhaust leaks. The valve lash is set in the middle of the factory specs, and it has 170 psi compression in both cylinders. Spark plugs read perfect light brown at idle, mid range, and WOT after plug chops.

Syncing the carbs helped but did not eliminate it

I'm seriously thinking about converting to EFI to see if that fixes it, but maybe it's just the nature of the beast.
