Just lost the head gasket on my KZ650. question is as a mechanicaly inclined person how difficult of a task am i about to embark into and what are going to be the biggest obstacles. thanks for any help

to replace the head gasket... no problem at all...
Your gonna have to remove the tank, carbs, and coils... then just remove the valve cover. Now if you go further into the engine then you are going to have to reset the timing, take the exhaust off and head into the engine....which is kinda tedious. A Clymers manual is invaluable when doing these jobs.

Spend the extra $ for the Kawi factory manual. It is definitely worth it. You will have to set the camshaft timing right or you will trash the valves, the FSM will say exactly how to do this..
It would probably be smart to have the valves lapped and replace the valve guide seals while the head is off.

If by "losing the head gasket", you're talking about an oil leak, that's not the head gasket leaking. 400 rubber orings in a KZ650.
