I wouldn't. The performance increase (if there is any at all) is not as much as the PITA they will be to get them running right.

Very likely, that's the PITA part.

Well, I wouldn´t say it like that. Depends what you´re after. Racing look and feel then definately! They look, sound and feel COOL! If it´s for daily commuting, cruising then I´d use air box and a good K&N filter in it to get better flow. I ride a pretty much modified ELR so just my 0,02€B)

See that little box that says "search forum" up on the page. Put in "pods" hit enter and after about 1/2 hr of reading you will be an expert on the ups and downs of running pods. It's a difference of opinion that plays out at least 2 or 3 times a week.
Here are the cliff notes

Pods+
You need to squeeze every hp out of your steed
You do not mind noodeling around with your bike
You have the time and patience to noodle around
Ease of removing and installing carb rack
(The above + is nullified if you get new carb boots for your airbox)
Some say the looks of pods is a plus (subjective)
Pods-
Good pods are costly..cheap pods are useless
Lean out condition from side winds & passing semi's
Difficulty getting them dialed in
Yes, you will have to re-jet to realize the increase
Subject to rain and road splash
Cost of returning to airbox if pods don't turn out to be your thing (PS don't throw away your airbox)
Pods are really alien seed canisters that will suddenly open and suck your face off then destroy your brain forcing you to buy and ride a Harley....ok....ok..maybe not a Harley ...a Vespa!

I think this statement is pretty much untrue. Emgo pods flow as well as K&N pods. Emgo pods are about a 1/4 the price. Their disadvantage is that they have paper elements and can't be cleaned where K&N are supposed to last a lifetime.

Also, a K&N drop in filter (in your airbox) is supposed to flow a lot better than a factory paper element. My testing hasn't shown that... the K&N may flow better in some applications but not in any I have tested. The K&N also introduces the very definite chance that the bike will run rich as MOST folks who own them over-oil them. More is always better, right?

I won't say much more about pods vs an airbox. This has been hashed out so much that it isn't worth getting into. At some point, I suppose it would be a good thing for someone to actually write an article on the subject and put it in the Filebase as this question and the questions about oil have had sufficient airing.
