17 Jun 2008 20:50
Can some one tell me if i need to remove the bevel gear cover to replace the the shifter seal? It looks like i can possibly remove it with out removing the cover but i'm not sure. It does'nt leak much 3-4 drops over nite but it is still annoying.
Thanks for the help

The proper (and IMHO, only) way to install a new shifter seal on your bike is to remove the bevel gear case.
I did this exact same repair last year on my ZN700LTD (shaft drive), and it really isn't all that hard of a task to tackle.
Be sure to get a new bevel gear case gasket before you tear into this repair, and be extra careful to not gouge the mating surfaces or leave any oil residue behind when installing the new gasket.
