Tank Liners

Ok,now I've worked through my tranny an motor problems on to other areas. What do you guys think of tank liners. I know a lot of car guys that absolutely hate tank liners, and some that swear by them. I have some mild rust in my tank. I took a small piece of chain and tumbled it around to try and knock some loose, which I found more than I first expected. I'm looking for any tips, brands, or whether or not to even use one. Oh and I definitely have a fuel filter.
Thanks,

I "Kreemed" my Z1B tank about 10 years ago and the inside of the tank is still perfect.
You really have to follow the instructions and prep the tank good.
I was able to do it without any damage to the new paint on the tank

I used Kreem about 25 years ago and it is still working. I didn't manage to keep from hurting the paint.... turns out even the fumes from the stuff will eat the paint off if they pass over the paint. I think you shoud wrap the whole tank in a plastic garbage bag and tape the thing dead tight around the fill hole and the petcock hole.

An alternative to Kreem that works very well.... tinyurl.com/4l7wwc

Either one, the prep is VERY important. B)

POR-15 is supposed to be good. I am going to use it on my tank when I am through rebuilding the engine. A google search will bring the site up..chris3

I cannot emphasize enough the preparation aspects of tank lining. I have several tanks from previous owners where they clearly didn't take the time to do it correctly...I have have one tank where the PO went ahead and kreemed a second time over the first poor kreem job. It is gooey and the rust is still bleeding through. Now I'm stuck with trying to remove Kreem from tanks...and it ain't easy.:)

I have used both Kreem, P15 and a liner called RedKote. All do a good job as long as you don't cut corners. Heed Mcdroid's advice or you will have a real mess on your hands!

It's pretty much all been said. You use the Kreem 3 part kit and I can guarantee the prep will not be sufficient to etch the tank. Get your own acid and get a lot of it and do it up strong to be sure the tank is cleaned. I've done 3 or 4 tanks and they all came out fine with no damage. I'll have to add though of course I only work with original paint tanks. If it's repaint 3000% less durable and easy to damage. I had to add that "fact" as I'm sure my paint posts are missed on the group here.
