I'm not a mechanic, but I think I "cooked" my motor. Turns out air cooled bike don't like rush hour traffic and 90-degree days. It backfires and smoking from various places on the motor. It's leaking oil and doesn't want to idle when it's hot. Something's wrong. I have to do a compression test and go from there. If it is toast, would a '92 ZX7R motor fit and work in my bike? I really don't want to rebuild the factory 738.

That's bad news. Sorry to hear.
Isn't the ZX7R's engine one of the ones that are slanted forward?

The ZX7R motor I wanted needs a rebuild. I'll probably just look for another 738cc motor, but I found a ZRX motor.

I think it's the ZR-7 thats the more modern version and if you can find one it might just squeeze it. Worth a closer look anyway.
Just had a surf around and perhaps the ZX7 would work. Not entirely sure what the difference is. I looked at a ZR 7 a few years back and it appealed to me since it was very similar to the current beast.

The ZR-7 motor should be an easy swap, but I can't find any around here. I found a ZRX motor, but it doesn't look complete. The ZX7R is a sportbike. Water cooled, inline four (748cc), still had carbs and probably put down a little over 100 whp. I'll probably need a complete parts bike to make the swap successful.
