KZ305 Tranny was created by emailwiley
I just recently purchases a 1982 belt drive KZ305. I have been looking around at different websites that say it should be a six speed. My shift pattern is 1 down and 3 up. There is only 4 gears as far as I can tell. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Is there something wrong with my tranny or is it only a four speed? Someone help me! Thanks!

Have you determined top speed? That would tell you if it's "missing" gears.
Do you have a manual?

When I got my kz440 it only shifted 1-5 so I assumed it was a 5 speed. I looked next to the shifter and it had a box that said 1n23456. I couldn't believe it. Then a week or so later I was riding and it actually let me go up into 6th. I think the bike hadn't been riden much and it just needed a little use to get it to shift properly again.

According to kawasaki.com it's a six speed trans.
