Question about new Kerker 4-1 headers

Am considering buying a new Kerker 4-1 header for my '78 KZ1000. Does anyone know if they are still the exact same style as they were back in the '70s with the little curved area around the oil filter access? I love that style pipe. Anyone buy a new one lately? Got pics? Thanks.

I tried looking for you but only came up with "generic" Kerker pics. However, I did find this new Kerker on ebay for a 1000/900 but it does not have curved area. I agree, I've always liked that pipe too. Someone else will "pipe" :woohoo: in....

The really old ones had an ugly muffler brace that the newer ones dont. They will clear the oil filter either way. Take the baffle out & remove the fiberglass so they dont rust out, then put the baffle back in. If you dont ride long enough to dry it out they collect moisture because the pipe runs uphill

It still has the same part number, and claims to retain oil filter access so I would bet it's still the same pipe. The main thing I didn't like about it was the pipe wraps off to one side towards the front of the engine. This kills your ground clearance in turns particularly if brakes are being applied. I had one on the KZ1000MKII for one day and scraped a few times. Later put it on a 900LTD for 1 day and it was not for me.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

i bought a new kerker though i cant chime in on this question as i dont know what the old style looks like. my question is if i remove the fiberglass and leave the baffle in, does it require rejetting? or does the baffle still keep the mixture the same without the fiberglass?

Actually removing the fiberglass packing will actually slightly restrict the flow. Thats according to supertrapp. So you shouldn't need to rejet. I did this on mine and it runs about the same, just a bit growl to it.:)

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Cottencandyninja, do you have pics of your new pipe or your bike with the pipe installed that you could post? Thanks for all the replies.

The old style, at least mine, has an offset strap brace that goes form the muffler up to the top shock mount. Mines a drag bike so I dont care. New or old they are the same pipe, just different muffler mounts. Im not buying what Supertrapp says about the glass they will make more power with no glass or internal baffle on the dyno
