I put cams from an '84 GPZ1100 in my '82 CSR. I did notice a difference in performance.

Just be aware, however, that the J and GPZ cams do not have the tach gear as those models used electronic tachs. So right now, I am tach-less until I can find an electronic solution that I'm happy with.

I am already planning on a new cluster set up but I want to make sure the power difference is worth it.

Well, for me, it was a noticable difference. I had already installed Wiseco 1135/10.25 pistons. I ran them for a while on the CSR cams. Later I picked up the GPz cams and noticed a boost in power in the mid-high RPM range.

I get a slight stumble, however in low RPM range, and I am still working through that. I'm not sure if it is a carb issue or timing. Last week, I re-synched the carbs and adjusted the float levels, and that seemed to make it better, but it hasn't gone away totally. I'm now wondering if, with the hopped up pistons, I need to adjust the ignition timing. Before I installed the pistons, Jeff Saunders told me that I might need to do that.

From what I understand, the GPz cams have a little more lift than J cams. And J cams are a step up from CSR cams. If you don't already have J cams, you might try to find some GPz's.

Thanks. Yeah, I've seen them. Unfortunately, they look "OEM" for '73-'80 models. They don't look the same as my '82 tach, and won't fit the same bracket. And even MORE unfortunately, they want $199 for them.

I'm not planning to spend that much.

But thanks for mentioning it.
