OLD MAN ROCK, you brought a tear to my eye..
You are correct, there is nothing that sounds like an old kz, Im sorry guys, gs,cb.. The VIOLENT in my name is named after that sound.. I remember the first time i heard it, and i cant wait to hear it from mine..
NOW, as for the 600 beating the kz1000, the 600 will RUN IT DOWN on a top speed race, but just barely. In a 1/4 mile the 600's dont have a chance..

i love this thread. All of you talk about how thats what you grew up on and u still like them better. Well, I was born in 1990. I am 17, and I have 3 kz's. I never grew up on these bikes, or lived when they ruled the road. I just got my hands on one because it was cheap and fell in love. Got my 750 when I was 15 and two years later I have 3. I know many people with new bikes and have ridden a few, but there is NO way I will ever get rid of the old kaw's

I know it would not be any fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

Damn, I thought I was the youngest at 18. Oh well, hopefully I am still the youngest GPZ owner...

Same here... in market for a new bike, did some research on older sport bikes found Kz's Gs's Cb's Just picked one and fell in love with it. So now for one of the 20 years i've been alive it's while being a proud Kz owner (alot of older guys stop mowing their yards to watch me drive by). It's an awesome bike and i hope i'm never put in a situation where i have to sell her, or worse scrap her. Long live the Kz

Another example to proove the power of a KZ has over us...
Go to a bike hang out or bike show for that matter. There's all these new sport bikes, there's all these chromed up Harley's, and you'll find a crowd around one bike where grown men are ewing and awing and asking questions of the owner of this fin beauty. Work your way up to the front and low and behold, it's a fixed up 30 year old KZ...
Hell, there could be a naked women laying there and someone could ask "did you notice those breasts" and I'd be like, what? All I know some chick was laying in front of the KZ I was drooling over...:woohoo:

How Fast?...Have to take it to the track. I recently ran my modified 79 1000ST against an 07 Yamaha R6 at Englishtown NJ 1/4 mile track. The R6 posted a 12.0@112 and I ran a 12.1@114. It was a good race. He turned a better 60ft time and that made the difference (1.95 to my 2.05 (a pro rider would turn 1.7 - 1.8). It's really difficult to guess what a bike will run in the 1/4. I was "very sure" I could run my kz into the mid 11s before actually running it... magazine 1/4 mile times are an absolute best case scenario, corrected for weather conditions with a pro rider - almost impossible to duplicate the times a pro can turn unless you're a pro - I'm not.
My kz has a 1075, RS34s, drop in cam, pipe and most importantly, lots and lots of tuning, tweaking, testing and dynoing. After all that the dyno says 95RWHP with 50+ftlb from 3K to 9K with a peak of 65lbft@6700rpm. This engine in a chain drive bike would post 100+hp.
I recently rode a friends 04 GSXR600 w/4k miles. It's "fast" but the tach has to stay between 8K and 12K rpms. Not a good street characteristic. My kz would leave it standing still in a top gear roll on - where it matters...Just like a new ZX14 would leave me (80 - 100lbft of torque across the entire rev range)...crazy.
All that said, There's nothing I'd rather be riding than my 79 Kawi.
