tick tick tick engine noise was created by bizzyrider
I recently replaced the air switch and the bike purrrs. Well, it mostly purrrs. The bike still ticks. tick, tick tick, almost like there's a marble inside the engine. However, now that the backfiring and other nonsense has subsided I noticed the ticking stops when cruising at 50mph and 3000+ rpm. As soon as I drop to 40mph the tick returns. Is the cam tensioner a possibility (96 KZ 1000 54K)?

Yes,the cam chain tensioner could very well be the culprit.
Have you checked it,and do you have a manual for that bike?

No I have not and no I do not. Do you know if the tightening process is complicated? I remember reading some posts from people who did serious damage to their bikes.
Thanks
