Oil Cooler Lines - Help/Advice Needed was created by Ilbikes
Guys, I've now have the cooler (settled on a polished B&M Supercooler 4.5"x11"x1.5" - $55) and I've just won a set of NOS fittings on EBay. Now for the lines. I'm new to the four stroke Kaws, can some of you post photos of bikes with coolers and lines? I want to see how they are run and routed -

Help/input greatly appreciated.

Gordon

Depends on whether ya want "show" or "stealth" lines. This is how I did them:

Mine ran down the frame tubes and under the engine as the connections were on the bottom in my case.
It depends on what engine your dealing with.

One thing to consider is of course the connections. That´s pretty important. And of course heat issue. Routing lines over the engine (as they are in stock ELR)could mean less effective cooling.

Actually this will be a challenge I look forward to. I plan to have an attractive grill made for the cooler and I'll need to come up with a nice rubberized clamp system to go around the downtubes (like I did on the CB750 above). I think I want to go stealth with the lines and run them up and over the engine - then down between the carbs to the fittings behind the cylinders. I will likely use stainless tubing custom bent for the feed and return lines. These should blend into the engine color and be mostly hidden by the fuel tank when run above the cylinder head/cover. I'm not worried about the engine heat - if it doesn't ignite rubber fuel lines and gasoline, it sure won't bother the oil in the lines.

The radiator core is responsible for the heat exchange - I'm confident they work. The Honda has not let it's oil exceed 190 to date - even after some hard rides, 10.5:1 compression and summer heat. The Honda has the disadvantage of having it's lines run in parallel to the Kerker header pipes, but since the oil fiter and cooling adapter is front and center of the case - I really had little choice.

More ideas, please -
Gordon

Do you guys install a check valve when you add these coolers to keep the oil from draining back?

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.
