intermittent oil light

I just got my Z-1 back together after replacing, the base gasket, some new intake valve guides, set of rings, and carb rebuild - I guess an extreme makeover so to speak - (thanks to wg carbs and z-1 enterprises....for their service and assistance) Yesterday I started it and ran it for a bit and noticed the oil light is coming on intermittently mostly at idle. When I pull it up to 2k rpm it goes out and sometimes comes back on and sometimes takes a while. Since my grandfather gave it to me 3 years ago I have ran Castrol 10w 40 and haven't had any problems. The engine only has 8,684 miles on it and the lower end has never been apart. I'm wondering if there is a methodical procedure anyone could recommend to troubleshoot this one.

thanks,
Rodney

make sure the sensor and connections are good. If possible, connect an actual pressure gauge to see the reading. The sensor could be flaky.

That light should only come on for low oil pressure, typically less than 10 psi. Some old engines with a lot of wear can flash the light at hot idle where the output of the oil pump is lowest, but it should never light at higher RPM.

If this started after the rebuild, it sounds like you are losing oil pressure some place:

Did you get all the new O rings in place for the cylinder to crankcase seal? Also, the O rings that seal the oil pipes going from the cylinder to the head?
