My new to me '76 KZ900 has a 4 into 1 exhaust and I've a chance to get a stock 4 into 4 but its on a KZ1000. Anyone know if it'll fit?

Hello Rod. The short answer is yes BUT only the header pipes will fit...the mufflers may have different mounting points...AND only if the bike is an early KZ1000 model (I don't think J model KZ1000 pipes will fit). The other consideration is the make of the 4into4 pipes. Are these pipes Z1 style pipes? I can think of no other pipes that were 4into4...pictures would help in this case.

Rod as Michael pointed out the 4 into 4 pipes if stock came from a 900. When Kaw started making the 1000 they switched to a 4 into 2 style. Attached is a pic of my KZ900 with stock pipes for your reference.
Pay close attention to the area at the rear of the pipes where the baffle bolts in. The baffles tended to trap the condensation in the pipe causing them to rot away and usually pretty quickly. I think this was the main reason Kaw made the switch to the 4 into 2 style on the 1000's and also why original pipes now fetch so much money.

A friendly reminder about the oem 4 into 4 Z1 style exhaust --
At the bottom of each silencer is a small drain hole where water can escape. It is very important to keep these holes clear to avoid premature internal rusting which may otherwise proceed to quickly rot out the mufflers.
Trivia -- UK models had a baffle with a small tube sticking out the end, while US models had a bar welded across ends of the baffles. The tube or bar was to assist in removing the baffle. The series of baffles situated further down inside the muffler are not designed to be removable.
Good Luck!
