Engine Noise was created by 76 LTD
My 79 1000 has developed a clattering noise that seems to be coming from the area of the stator cover.starter clutch maybe? or loose rotor? anyone had the same problem or any ideas. Thanks

Does the engine rattle at idle then go away around 1500 rpm or so? I had one like that which ended up being loose starter clutch bolts. To find out for sure, pull your stator cover and reach behind the rotor and see if you can move or feel any looseness in the starter clutch. If it moves, it is loose. That would also be a good time to change the rollers and springs too....chris3

Pull your stator cover off and have a looksee. Remember to gasket goop your rubber bushing where the wires exit the cover or it will leak oil all over your shoe......Permatex no 2, the black sticky stuff works the best. chris3

Hey "76 LTD", Got any more info on the fix for this? Sounds like my bike is doing the exact same thing - the sound is horrible!

Cheers!
