1213cc kit in KZ900 - 76.5mm piston rings needed
20 May 2008 02:06 - 20 May 2008 02:08
G'day all,
Know of a fella over here in Oz, has just pulled down his Z9 and found it has a belly full of 76.5mm pistons. Only thing is it needs new rings. Anyone have any info on a bore kit of this size or where to source rings for it???
Thanks

Back in those days, the rings came from oem applications. 75 mm was Yamaha 650 twin, so 76 was same, step 4. Don't know where you would find 76.5.
There may have been a 76 from an early Honda Civic, so you would use the step 2 version of that.
List the ring groove widths, and we will see what matches up.

Thanks Jay,
Another piece of the puzzle:
Another piece of the puzzle:
thanks all for your efforts, the ring grooves are 1.5 mm for the two top and 3 for the oil, i want to stay with the kit i have as the pistons are in really good condition, ive been searching but so far i have only come close to the right size,im beginning to think that i may have to settle for close and then modify,an interesting thing about these pistons are that they have a machined alloy plug that fits in either side of the gudgeon pin acting as a retainer,i have never seen this before has anyone else

They are normally called "buttons", and have been made of both aluminum and teflon.
Normally used in racing motors.
Owner a Brit? That's the only place I know that calls a wrist pin a "gudgeon pin"

1.5, 1.5, 3.0 is an XN ring. E-mail Wiseco and JE Pistons and ask them if they have 76.5XN rings available.
