Oil Filter? was created by MadKaw500
I'm trying to find out what oil filter I need for my Z!. it has a 76 KZ900 engine in it. all the filters I find out there for them are about 1.5 inches shorter than the one in there now. I couldn't find a number on the filter in it now, wiped it down and just didn't see one. is there a deeper oil pan available for these bikes, or is my engine something else?

Are you sure you didn't lose the spring???
ALL 900+1000 oil filters are the same.
650 take the shorter one. apex. 1.5 shorter and the same diameter.

if you got a new filter from a kawi dealer, chances are he gave you one for a late model 900.. not the kz900, which is a filter that is like the 650, shorter, it happend to me

77 kz650, owned for over 25 years
77 ltd1000, current rider
76 kz900, just waiting

The one you want is part # 16099-002. It's used on Z1/KZ900/KZ1000 up through 1980 among others. It's outside area is metal can type material. If you got the smaller filter with the pleated paper outer material, it's for the newer bikes and won't get near fitting.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

well, I got one from the part number listed, and it was shorter than the one in the bike now.
