This is some info on starting up a bike that has not been started for a while from the KZ1000P auto group.
The doc is by Robert Ricker.

How to resurrect a KZP (or almost any bike) that has been sitting for years:
1. remove fuel tank
2. remove carbs
3. put (humph) bike on main stand
4. put bike in gear
5. remove spark plugs
6. spray wd40 into cylinder head where carbs were removed
7. pour 1 ounce Marvel Mystery Oil into each cylinder
8. let sit overnight
9. attempt to rotate rear tire by hand
10. if you get a full rotation – great! – keep rotating until it feels relatively smooth – skip to
step #16
11. if you only get slight movement, do not despair
12. rock the tire back and forth monitoring the travel distance to each stop
13. usually, you can break a bound engine free
14. once you get a full rotation, spray wd40 into the head again to lube valves
15. rotate by hand until it feels relatively smooth
16. change the oil and filter (use any cheap oil this time)
17. hook up a charged battery
18. spray wd40 into each cylinder
19. in a short burst – bump the starter – listen to the engine for mechanical grinding or
jamming sounds
20. if bad sounds occur, you will have to track them down and address each as required
21. no bad sounds? – great! – spray wd40 into the cylinder head and cylinders again crank
the engine for 10 seconds
22. if it still sounds okay, spray it again with wd40 and crank for 30 seconds
23. test compression – hopefully all is well – if not, take note of the pressures now and
compare with later (after rings and valves have a chance to reseat)
24. install new plugs
25. clean/rebuild the carbs
26. inspect the carb boots and replace as necessary
27. reinstall the carbs
28. clean fuel tank (as required) (seal if necessary)
29. change/add inline fuel filter
30. reinstall fuel tank
31. add fresh fuel
32. prime carbs
33. start engine – don’t be alarmed at varying smoke output at this time (you have been
spraying oil into the engine and that is going to smoke)
34. once you get engine to run (only at idle – don’t crank it up yet) let it idle for 5 minutes (it
may not fire well yet) then shut it down
35. pull and clean spark plugs with carb cleaner spray then reinstall
36. make sure your bike is ride-safe (tires inflated, brakes okay, etc.)
37. have an experienced rider (that knows how to handle surprise problems without injury or
damage) that can handle your bike, take it for an idle-only ride around the block.
38. if all goes well take it out for a mile or two keeping the rpms below 2500
39. if all goes well extend the ride to about 10 miles keeping the rpms below 4000
40. get it back into the shop
41. change the oil and filter (good quality inexpensive oil this time)
42. clean plugs again
43. check compression – should be within ratings now
44. run the bike easy (keeping rpms below 5000 and no hard starts) around town (so it isn’t
far if you need to be rescued) until you have clocked 100-200 miles on the bike
45. change oil and filter (this time use your favorite oil)
46. check valve tolerances
47. treat it like a brand new engine break-in from this point on and enjoy
48. change the oil every 3k

I hope this info will help you out.
