(Newbie) 1982 Kz750-e1 (not run for 20 years)

Hey everyone
This looks like a cool forum.
I hope to get some good advice (as i ain't too clever with bikes)
I just bought an 82' KZ750 it hasn't been run for 20 years
it has 3000 on the clock and is a great looking bike (it looks brand new, just dusty !!)
It was taken off the road all that time ago because the owners neighbors cut the wiring harness up !!!
(so it has some wiring issues)

My main question is how do i get it ready to start running again. Will all the gaskets need changing, will i need to flush the engine with anything.
I've cleaned the carbs already.
any help would be great
Thanks

Much depends on where it was stored . Check ebay for a wiring harness . What does the inside of the tank look like ? Fuel lines are most likely junk . All brake fluid should be changed and the lines should be carefully checked (or change them ) . Dump the engine oil and see how it looks . If it still looks like oil put some new oil in and run it gently for a half hour or so and dump it again . I had a 4000mi. '82KZ550 that used a lot of oil due to dried-up valve seals . You can worry about things like that after you get it running .

Haven't had a good look at everything yet
The brake masters are both dry.
the fuel tank is empty, just a few drops of residual.
Not checked the oil yet. (where is the oil drain) haven't got a manual yet either.

I think you'll be hearing alot more from me !!!!!

has anyone got any cool links with info about this model ?

Thanks

First thing to do is pull the plugs and fill the cylinders with either PB Blaster or Marvel mystery oil and let it soak while you figure out everything else.

Just plain old PB blaster either in spray can or most auto parts stores have it in Gallon size containers now.it will unstick any stuck rings and also dissolve most carbon deposits .
