I think they are interchangeable. You just need to use a different set of bolt holes on the cam gear for intake/exhaust. In other words, there is one set of holes for the intake, and another set for the exhaust. There should be a stamp above the holes that tells you which is which.

At least that's how it is on the 1000 J engine cams. I can't remember what the 77-80 cams look like.

Best way to be sure is go to either Bike bandit or babbittsonline.com and use their OEM explosion drawings that will give the Kawi part numbers. If they are the same number, they are the same cams.

Well, I can tell you with confidence that they are not going to have the same part number. The exhaust cam has the tach drive gear. That doesn't mean that the lobes are not the same size and relative position.

Z1+KZ Intake and exhaust all the same. except for tack drive...
When you change to the J model you have to change the sprocket on the cam.
You can order cam's any way you like, the last set I ordered I got both ex cam's
that way I could switch cam duration+lift around. also if you have the cam's out
you may wont to slot the sprockets. For cam timing
