I shouldn't have to ask this... was created by jorn
It's embarrassing to even think about, but I don't know how to check the oil on my new bike. Is there a dipstick? Does it have to do with the little viewport way below the filler cap? It's a 1980 KZ750G twin.

Figured I'd better find out before I go cranking her over, now that I've got fire...

If you don't ask you will never know. Yes, it's the little viewing window. Have the bike on the center stand and the oil should be between the min and max lines, if you don't have the center stand for some reason you want the bike vertical to get a accurate reading.

But unfortunately the 750G doesn't have a center stand, so you have to do it the hard way.

"The Hard Way"

You have to hold it up straight and read the level at the same time.

Just occurred to me what bad shape I'm in without a manual. If anybody sees one on ebay, please pm the listing to me.

You can try www.repairmanuals.com or you may be able to still order a copy from Kawasaki.

Urge getting an assistant to hold and balance the bike while you are down there checking the oil level (likely trying to also manipulate a flashlight).

It's sinfully easy to quickly lose control of things and suffer the bike falling over (maybe on top of you.) :(

Good Luck! :)

Even if you have done it a bunch of times it can go bad quick. Don't ask how I know. At least it's a light bike and shouldn't be too much trouble pushing it off of yourself.
