Crankshaft oil seal

Do you have to split the cases to change the crankshaft oil seals on an 81 Kz750. the one under the ignition side has a very small leak. Someone mentioned I could cut the lip off of the seal to get in in there, but I would rather do it correctly.

id be worried about nicking the cases where the sal goes and causing bigger leak,id say split the cases;)
