question on flywheel puller was created by kvanek
I have a 78 kz200 that i want to remove the flywheel.
I have no way to really tell what size the threads are to buy the correct puller. I beleive it would be the same as the kz250??????

My guess is it is somewhere around 17mm.

On most of the larger KZ's you can insert a small ball bearing... make sure the ball bearing can drop easily into the hole on the end of the crankshaft and can be fished out with a magnet. If it is large enough to contact thread all the way around, get a SMALLER ball bearing. Anyway, drop the ball bearing in and then use your steering stem bolt threaded into the hole to back the generator/stator off the crank end. It is very easy to remove the thing with an impact driver. Not sure about the hole size on your bike so don't try and force the bolt to thread in and then hit it with an impact driver. And again, make sure the ball bearing is small enough to drop right out again... you don't want to press a larger ball bearing into the thread.

Ball bearing is kind of just isolating your removal bolt from directly contacting the end of your crankshaft which could damage the threads there. If the bolt in your top triple clamp is not the right one sometimes a rear axle is what bolt you need. Changes from model to model and year to year.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I just got done pulling the rotor to check the bolts on the starter drive on my KZ 1000. The bearing I used measured just over 1/2" diameter (.532") and worked great. Hope that helps.

Does anyone know where to get a ball bearing for flywheel removal? I'm guessing I need one that's about 1/2" diameter. This is for my MKII.

I don't remember ever seeing a single ball bearing for sale anywhere.

Thanks!
