oversized valves kz900 was created by RedneckSamurai
I have what I believe are valves from a j model bike, they have 6.96mm stem and the faces measure 37.5mm for the intake and 32mm for the exhaust. My question is can a stock 900 head have the seats recut to accommodate these valves? My concern is the head I was gonna use has a helicoil in a sparkplug hole and when it was tapped it went into the valve seat slightly...I doesnt look like the difference in size would matter but looking for your opinions. Here is a picture you can barely see though [img size=600]

That will be close on the intake. The very early 900s could take a 32 exhaust, but thye rest, only 31.

You do know that J model / GPZ valves are shorter than your 900 valves.

Thanks Jay, I was planning on putting some APE guides in. Anyhow, I did a quick measure on them and it seems the stock int. is 91.6mm and the exh. 90.2 the oversized are 90.5 int and 90mm exh.. The seats can be cut to accommodate the stem height, right? speaking of valve stem height, which jig do I need from APE or you could just gimme the measurements and I'll machine my own...lol. Thanks again

You will probably end up sinking them far enough when you are trying to get adaquate valve to valve ( .180" between the valves on the seat).

The stem gage you needs depends on the base circle diameter of your cams.

Be sure you have one of the early heads that will take the 32 ex valve, or cut it down to 31.
