searching for an engine builder
01 May 2008 18:15 - 01 May 2008 18:42
Hey all, I'm new to the forum but not KZ's I'm beginning the search early for a shop to beef up my 80 kz1000 ltd engine this winter. Any help will be greatly apprieciated. I'm located near Edmonton Alberta Canada. I gave up with the Kawi dealer here I brought them my carbs for a cleaning and bench tune and it took them a month to tell me they didn't want to work on "old junk". wow

Where are you located? Put your City and state in here and maybe someone can narrow it down to your home town or close by.
1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110

buy a manual for your bike, get some tools and go to work. Easy solution, no mechanic required. Unless you have no spare time to work on it this is a good solution. In my mind, anybody with some mechanical ability can rebuild an engine with a manual if you pay close attention to how you took it apart. Will seem intimidating at first but after you do it you wonder why you didn't do it earlier.

I'm looking for major work (undercut 2nd,bore to 1075,head mods, cams etc.) I do all my own minor stuff. just changed the front and rear wheel bearings and seals, fork seals, dropped in progressive fork springs, changed the tires, steering head bearings and races, sprockets and chain, and so on. I just want a shop with an exellent reputation to work their motor magic and ship my engine back to me when they are done.

Larry Cavanaugh (Larry Cavan) and APE (APE Jay) are both members here and both have shops and build motors. There are several other shops that do it also.
