As far as I know... Kawasaki made less than 5000 1976 900"B" LTD's. I bought mine off the showroom floor:)
I had gone to buy a stock KZ900. But the LTD was too much :woohoo: :woohoo: I had to have it!!!
I would hate to disagree with you George... but I don't think they made them in 1977. I had three 1977 1000 "B"
LTD's too...
But I've been wrong before:whistle: and I'm sure it won't be the last time either;)
Pat

1974 900 Z1 modified to look like a LTD , some engine mods. But I still have all the original parts.
1977 1000 project bike
1972 H1 project bike
If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?

The LTD's had lower gearing, even beyond the smaller wheel size. They also had a four into two exhaust system and a stepped seat.

Terry, if the 6th letter in your frame number is a 'B', then you have an LTD frame (at least), if not an entire LTD:laugh:

Short term economics...
The way sales have been going on ebay on the old 900's, it might make more sense to sell it and buy something else. That is, if you want something else.

Investors viewpoint...
If it's gonna appreciate faster than inflation and it's not gonna cost you to keep it nice then it makes sense to keep it and buy another bike to modify.

Alternate historical perspective...
You might build with period parts. IMO-FWIW, this does not detract from the value. It's still a period bike, just like someone would have built it back in 76/77.

Considering that life is short and it's just a bike...
You might say to yourself..."I don't give a rat's ass about the money OR what other people think" and build what you want :-)

It's true, some original KZs have sold for a pretty penny off ebay probably due to keeping it original. Then again I've seen some really nice fully restored all original KZs go for below nada guide book value. But I mean come on, the time and effort that goes into restoring a KZ can take a considerable amount of time and money any how. These bikes should be bought to ride, not to be concerned about market value/resale value. I think you should mod the bike out to whatever makes you happy, and not be concerned of it's resale value. Have fun for crying out loud.

Hey now sakiguy!

I like riding but I buy my bikes to wrench on.
Have not bought a runner yet.
Someone has doctor or minister to the poor bikes that have one wheel in the scrap yard.

As for collector stuff. The only way to make a buck in that biz is to flip a lot of stuff without putting any $ into it. Find it, hype it's 'rarity' and 'potential' and get someone to sink a lot of dough in a project that's gonna cost them at least as much to finish.

A late friend was very good at doing this with 60's furniture. Nice guy, neighbor, killed by his grossly incompetent doctor who couldn't tell angina from indigestion. Poor guy walked around for two years untreated and one morning fell over dead into his bacon and eggs.
