All the same? Looking at parts for my GPZ, have the cams, but want to make sure that the other stuff works. do I hear something weird about the tach drive, or am I completely off base here?

Thanks guys.

Differences I have confirmed.

80-81 750E/H heads have provisions for roller cam chains like 650's, rounded fins, tach drive.

83-85 GPz heads have squared fins, no provision for roller cam chains, no provision for tach drive.

Things I have read, but "not" confirmed personally.

80-81 750 E/H heads have smaller combustion chambers than later heads.

83-85 GPz heads have minor porting and the largest combustion chambers of the 80-85 750's.

I have read that there is some difference between the valves in the 83-85 GPz750's and the other 750's, they may be longer, can't recall what the difference was suppose to be at the moment.

There may be other differences, but that's all I can recall right now.

I have 80 750E, 81 750H, and 83-85 GPz, heads here, if there is anything specific you want me to check, just ask.

Ummmm....
That's a set of cylinders (jugs) not a head.

See if the part number is stamped on it. Check the part diagram at bike bandit and see what years that part number goes with.

I believe it is a 750 cylinder because the sleaves are almost touching, the 650 cylinders have more room between them. And it looks like an 8mm bolt hole in front of and behind the cam chain cavity. Just measure the bores to be sure. Standard bore for the 650 is 62mm and 66mm for 750. The 810cc kit takes it out to 69mm.

Looks like a 80-81 750 cylinder block to me, it has the provisions for the roller cam chain of the earlier 650's. I have two that look just like it, one 81 and the other is a 80.

OK, so will this tach drive affect the bike physically if I put an 1980 head on my 84 GPZ?

Thanks.

Thanks.

You'll just have to plug the whole for the tach drive.

If you need a 83-85 GPz750 head, I have two or three of them.
