bad cylinder?????

I have a '81 kz750e We are trying to get it running good since it's been sitting for over a year, we are able to get it started but it needs wide open throttle to start and then it will die if you throttle down...also one exhaust pipe i think the #3 pipe(inside pipe on right side) will get extremely hot to touch almost right away but all the other pipes are still cold to the touch.

sounds like it is running on one cyl,, what all have you done to the bike?

the key to getting one running that has been sitting is to do a full tune up and carb clean new plugs,ect.

We have checked all the fluids and changed the oil...check the gap on the plugs they looked pretty clean.

The next steps for this weekend will be to
1. clean the carbs
2. check the air filter
3. Possibly rebuild carbs(unsure how to sync them after tho)
4. follow any other suggestions...

I would get new plugs to try. If not new plugs, at least exchange the working cylinder plug into a non working cylinder. If the non working cylinder fires up and the previous working cylinder doesn't you know it's the plug. If the same cylinder fires up with the different plug but the others don't, you know you'll have to keep looking for the problem.

was it running ok before? wot start would suggest that it is running rich.do u have spark at each plug? do u have fuel at each carb?

it blows my mind that people will want to clean plus,,, they dont make them like they used to, most of the time if you try to clean them you damage the electorde and cause it to not fire,, plugs are cheap put some new ones in, and have a spare set just incase
