Bigger cams needed for my 1000 was created by kawtoy
All I need to get my bike put back together is a nice set of cams. I have a stock bore 1015cc, ported/polished head, 10.5-1 pistons, sidewinder open pipe, 29mm smoothbores, Dyna ignition, accel coils...... but still only stock cams. Who has a set they want to sell. Not looking for anything radical, just a good street cam. Please let me know what you have and how much you want for it. You will make the kawasaki gods very happy

Well, there are sets with about .360 lift, .375lift (GPZ cams) which are good cams, .395 lift, .410, .418, and .425 lift cams that would work. Myself, I think I would stay around the .375-.395 lift cams...whichever I could find. .410 cams are great with a 1075 motor but I think the smaller cams would be better all-around for the smaller motor you are running. .360 would wake your motor up but with your head, etc. I think you are better set up to use a little bigger. I always wanted to try a set around .395 lift but if you can find a set around .375, I'd try those. Not too radical but still enough to give you a kick in the seat.

That would be great. Let me know what he has and how much. I of course will hook you up a bit for your trouble. Have fun at the derby this year. I am in NY now so way too far for me to go. I am bummed I never had a chance to check it out. Maybe someday

Hi kawtoy, don't forget to grind the "+" castings off of the inside of your valve cover for camlobe clearance. Maybe you already know about this, cheers, Doug

You also might have to clearance the head next to the lifter bores so the cams have room to rotate. Put the cams in and slowly turn them til high part of lobe is ready to run onto the bucket. If the cam is big enough and might hit the head, you will see where it needs to be "relieved" so there is enough room.

410s do need this.

Do you know if the exhaust side of the cover needs clearanced too? I only have the "+" castings on the intake side. It looks like my old cover was clearanced for all 8 lobes but I don't want to do the exhaust side if I don't have to. I'm getting ready to send a cover to be chromed and want to grind it first. I have .425 cams and the head was clearanced.

u could place the cam in the head with 1 lobe faceing straight up.then put the gasket and cover on buy hand. if it feels good try a little play doe or putty on to lobe and repete. u should be able to measure the thickness of the putty .
