Big Bore for KZ1000P / KZ1000J?
30 Jan 2006 22:51
Did a forum search...and saw a post by APE Jay about 1076 for CHP bikes. Is that about it for J motors? Also had a look at APE KZ page but am not KZ savvy enough yet to know what fits.
What's available to increase displacement on a '95 KZ1000P-14? Will GPz blocks bolt-up? Big blocks like APE? Splitting cases and machine work is not a deterrent...
Currently running a Murray X-pipe (but sometimes a bastardized V-H 4-1, 2.5" collector, 2.5" core Summit Racing shorty glass pack muffler), Keihin CR Specials, Accel coils. Have GS-E swing arm and 4.5" Kosman widened stock wheel to bolt-on. Bike is sound, looks good and runs great. Would like to build a street-only, foot-boarded, police-faired sleeper/parts runner.

1076 is as big as you can go just boring the stock sleeves. 1260 in a stock block with big sleeves, Over that, 1500cc is the limit with one of our blocks.

I have been waiting for this topic to show up.
Is there a concern for the J Model Engine as far as the Compression Ratio?
The stock compression is 9.2 to 1.
MTC offers 10.5 to 1.
I have heard that the 81 and later KZ-1000 head is prone to detonation when the compression is increased.
I asked about this some time ago and only pre 81 bike owners responded to say that they were happy with increased compression.
Is this concern just driven by a few owners that did not re-jet their carbs?
or, is there a real concern for increasing the Compression Ratio on 81 and later KZ-1000s.
Is the solution to use several cylinder base gaskets to take the compression down a bit?
