Stretching Clutch Cable was created by ltdrider
So I'm riding around town on Saturday, a beautiful day in Palmdale, CA... 62F and Sunny. Just cruising, spending quality time with the bike.
Well, I get home, and I can't kick the tranny up into neutral. Weird. Clutch lever is pulled in, lots of tension, but I can't get out of first and into neutral.
I decided to go around the block once, to see if the tranny will shift OK on the fly. It shifts fine, but I noticed that I have alot of slop in the clutch lever. I was able to adjust the cable slack at the lever, and pulled in a bigger handful of clutch. Now, while the bike is stopped, I can kick up into neutral with ease.
I learned that the clutch can engage enough to keep the bike from rolling in first gear, and you'll be able to shift up and down, but you may not be able to get neutral with minimum engagement.

take a look at the ends of your cable if they dont look like they are ready to snap, try adjusting it down low on the adjuster inside chaincover, then fine tune it at your clutch lever.goodluck, happy wrenching!

Amen to that. Have you practiced a Busted Clutch Cable Stop? It can be kinda bumpy.

Yeah, I didn't mention that I'm going to order a new cable from Jeff@Z1. Funny how it seems to do all the stretching just before it breaks. But 'reading the signs' is what will keep us off the flatbed.
