stator - is this normal? was created by zbucket
the end of the stator has an orange gasket like material that is seperating. some of it is missing. is this something that needs to be replaced?

No, it does not need to be replaced.
I had read in a recent Classic Motorcycle Mechanics magazine of a rebuild on a KZ engine that they removed the rest of the gasket material to keep it from getting in the engine.

1977 KZ650C1
and the KZ650/KZ750 Conversion ;)
