550 A4 out of storage / Oil eye

I have just finished bringing the old girl (550A4) back to life after a 5 month rest in the garage.

After swapping out the resistor plugs for american spec NGK D8EA's (still looking for an ND Dealer in Ontario) and draining the carb bowls (Stabil last fall) she fired pretty much right up.

Now don't laugh, this is the first bike I've ever owned with an Oil eye for level, and the first street Kawa for that matter (just couldn't buy yet another Honda).

Anyways, after firing the bike up and getting it warm, I dropped the old oil out of it, dropped the filter and installed new. The FSM says about 2.9L to fill the bike after dropping the filter. I only added about 2.5L, fired the bike up, observed oil pressure light go out let it run for a few moments, stop engine and check oil eye; it shows oil at the top of the eye with the engine shut off and the bike vertical +/- a degree or two.

Has anyone else noted a descrepancy about oil requirements on a 550?

P.s. It runs loads better with fresh conventional oil as compared to the Motul synthetic that was in it.

Yea both my H2's seem to do that. I usually add 2 qaurts and run it and then add enough to fill the eye.

I've been loading my F2 with 3L of oil as it says on the crankcase. Am I putting too much in?

I've gotta re-fill it today, as I drained it all last night, so maybe I'll try less..2.5 instead.

I just pour all 4 quarts in, no pausing, no hesitating!
