Dyna 2000 GPz1100 Tach connection was created by howard95132
I'm installing a Dyna 2000 ignition system on a 1982 GPz1100. Since my stock IC igniter is removed, I have to use the Dyna tach output cable. My bike has a tach drive circuit and a push button to toggle the tach from tachometer mode to (battery) voltage mode. With the Dyna 2000, do I connect the green wire of the 2000 to the taco/volt switch by removing the stock green wire from the switch and eliminating the stock tach driver circuit? This would connect the Dyna tach output directly to the tachometer, bypassing the stock drive circuitry.

If you are not running the stock EFI anymore, try the three hole plug that provides tach output to the stock injection control box from the main harness. Black, red, and green wires into a male terminal end and plugs into the EFI wiring harness. If you are running carbs then the lead will be unconnected and dangling. It is a parralel output, separate from the instrument panel output.
I use the DYNA S and carbs on my '81 GPz1100 and still get signal from the dangling plug just the same.
Will try to post a picture from the '82 GPz1100B2 manual. Look at the diagram between the coils and the igniter and you will see a three lead plug. Cross your fingers...

I have the manual and was told by Dynatech to connect it where the tach output of the stock IC igniter is. I disconnected the green wire from the tacho/volt switch and soldered the Dyna green tach wire there. I also traced this connection back to the tach output of the IC igniter and electrically, it's the same connection. I disconnected the stock tack output by unsoldering the stock green wire, but I'd think this would have no effect. I'll find out tonight as I just got my new Dyna 2000 ignition. My first one was defective and the bike wouldn't start. It was firing at about 65 deg. BTC, not 15 deg. and no engine will start at 65 BTC.
