speedo cable question

I picked up what I thought was a 1982 KZ1000 that I later figured out was a CSR1000 with parts from KZ1000 making it look like a KZ1000...

Oh well... It was an awesome deal anyway...

On to my question.

I had a lot of smoking from a leak from the speedo cable for a while, I took a closer look and noticed that the engine side of the cable was half way off!!

I tightened it finger tight, plus half a turn with vice-grips and it looks good :)

Do I need a washer or grommet? Or am I good to go?

Tks, Ben

I think you mean your Tach cable(Speedo just goes from the guage to the front wheel hub). Keep an eye on it and if it starts leaking black goo that starts smoking you need a Tach Seal Kit. You can get it and a set of blinkers from Z1 Enterprizes.
