not knocking or anything like that.... just seems I can hear the mechanicals a little too much... any idea why? kinda like a sewing machine sound... is it normal?

It should be quiet, it sounds like your valves need adjusting. Check the guide spocket between the cams for play or roughness while spinning, also.

78 650-C2, Stock engine, Jardine 4-2 Exh., 17-38 sprockets, dyna ignition and coils, coil wiring mod, carb mod.

noisy valves are happy valves :) but seriously i would start with a cam chain adjustment and check the valve clearance.

And might add to previous suggestions that properly synched carbs usually contribute to a smoother and quieter idle. :)

P.S. And would also assure ignition timing is set to specs.
And that valve clearances are also within proper specs. :)
