Wondering something. Can carbs from a Suzi GS750 be put onto a KZ650?

If anyone has access to one of these GS's and can measure the carbs I'd be MUCH obliged!

They fit...

Essentially all the carbs from the Z1, KZ900, KZ1000, KZ1100, GS750 & GS1000 all share the same spacing - as do the Mikuni VM29's (29mm smoothmores) and VM33's and some more...

It gets more complex when you get into the Suzuki GSX range of bikes.

Jetting and setup is a different issue. Most Suzuki carbs run much leaner on main jet, fatter on pilot and a different slide cutaway (leaner)

The carb spacing on a GS750 is listed at 77-93-77. You would have to find out what the carb spacing is on a KZ650. The spacing on KZ750/900/100 is also 77-93-77. Do 650 carbs fit on 750's?

I had these on a bike I purchased in college. They are 1mm bigger than the 650 carbs supposedly. They never idled well, and a decade later I had a shop dyno tune my bike with them. They couldn't get them to idle well either and reccomended 29mm smoothbores. I purchased those and the midrange and idle improved. Interestingly, though peak HP and the top end of the torque curve were basically the same with the GS750 carbs. Only the bottom and midrange improved with the 29mm carbs.

I thought the 650 and 750 spacing was the same, and the 900 and bigger engines had a larger spacing. So you could not put 900 carb on a 750. Is this true? Dont the bigger engines need bigger spacing due to the size of jugs and head??

I stuck GPz1100 throttlebodies on a GPz750 motor, so I do know that the 650,750, and GPz1100 are the same, and I'm reasonably certain the 1000J and GPz1100 are the same carb spacing. However, I have no idea if the 900/1000 are the same as the others.

TWT - Carb spacing for the GS650, GS750, GS850, GS1000 and GS1100 are the same and are also the same as the Z1, Z1A, Z1B, KZ650, KZ750, KZ900, KZ1000, KZ1100.

The issues you will run into are that you will need larger intake manifolds than would be used with the KZ650/VM24 AND the larger venturi on the intake side will require adapting to the stock airbox OR use of pods.

The Suzuki VM26 used on the earliest GS750s are about the nastiest carburetors on the planet to make them work right on the bottom end... that is idle and off idle response. They "feature" both an pilot fuel mixture screw and air screws and VERY large air jet and slide cutaway which require the need to use excessively large pilot jets. Most VM26 models use #15 pilots and a few use #17.5 but the earliest Suzuki VM26 (GS750) used #22.5. I am working on a set now trying to get them to idle properly without much sucess. On the positive side, unlike some of the VM26 assemblies used on larger displacement GS models, the GS750 carb rack uses a choke lever like the KZ models. Some of the other GS assemblies use a cable which would require you to mount the cable and its related holder.

This is an old thread...sorry for bumping it...but I would like to know just how this 77-93-77 measurement was attained for the GS750 carburetors?

I'm asking because I have a set of mikuni BS32SS throttle bodies that have a wider spacing than my GS750 carburetors, but they only measure 75-81-75 (plus or minus a mm).
